ABSTRACT

Fig. 2 shows a single-screw extruder configurations com-

monly used for food processing. It consists of a preconditoner,

a main drive unit, a barrel, one or two screws, and a die.

Extruders are typically classified into two categories: single-

screw extruder and twin-screw extruder. Historically, single-

screw extruders have been used extensively in the food indus-

try due to their low cost, simplicity, and robustness. However,

twin-screw extruders have gained popularity because of their

versatility and other advantages over single-screw extruders.
