ABSTRACT

Furrow irrigation is used to irrigate most crops that are

planted in rows and require cultivation to remove weed

competition. Small channels or ditches are constructed

between the planted rows and are used to convey water

across the field being irrigated. Rather than water infiltrat-

ing the entire soil surface, as with flooding, with furrow

irrigation water only infiltrates the soil through the furrow.

As water infiltrates through the furrow, water is then

moved within the soil both laterally and vertically to satu-

rate the soil profile.
