ABSTRACT

A food package is a structure designed to contain a product

for easier and safer transport, protect the product against

contamination and damage, and provide a convenient

means for dispensation. An understanding of the product

to be packaged is vital for finding the perfect match among

the wide array of materials being employed these days.

Steel and aluminum cans are used to pack carbonated

drinks while most non-carbonated drinks are packed in

polyvinyl chloride (PVC) bottles. Wines and most carbo-

nated beverages are packed in glass bottles. All dairy

products, except milk, are packed in either polystyrene

(PS) or polypropylene (PP) packaging.
