ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the Waihi project scenario. It explains how to install the condev package. The communities of Waihi are well aware of the value of the forest to their subsistence livelihoods as it provides: timber for their houses and canoes, medicinal plants for their ailments, habitat for their game animals, as well as areas of cultural importance. All of the data regarding the ‘Waihi’ project is located on a package called condev which is held in GitHub. The condev package can be downloaded via code directly in R using four steps. Attendee is a data set that simulates attendance data collected by conservation and development projects when undertaking training projects. Hunt is a simulation of a small hunting study. The analysis of this kind of data is important for understanding hunter impacts on local wildlife and the importance of wild caught meat in local diets.
