ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a quick start view of the plan translation process with minimal constraints. It illustrates the MS Project plan creation steps as simply as possible. The challenge is to produce a plan that mirrors the structure of the Work breakdown structure (WBS) and one which should also represent the work structure vision for the project. For a starting point, assume that the subject matter experts associated with the project have created a project WBS. From this WBS view, we can now move the data into directly into MS Project which then provides the basic mechanical inputs needed to derive an initial schedule and budget. Also, realize that there is an abundance of status data buried inside the MS Project model. As resource types or specific names are allocated to the tasks, the system will calculate the cost of the task and the total project based on those allocations.
