ABSTRACT

Recognize that a project schedule overrun is one of the most recognizable negative events for a project. As discussed, work unit boxes become the primary support elements needed for creating the project schedule. One of the most important plan status elements is to define which tasks are constraining the overall schedule. Predecessor coding represents the creative part of the schedule development exercise and is both an art and a technically oriented process. Regardless of the local approach for deriving activity work estimates, translation of that decision into the schedule requires specific resource quantities to be assigned to generate planned duration estimates. To accomplish the sequencing step successfully, the project team must understand the specified process sequence since this is going to be used to define the schedule. The associated resource or project work schedule has to be defined since the software uses this to translate tasks into a calendar schedule where non-working weekends are observed.
