ABSTRACT

Metrics are “the measures to be used to show benefits realized, direct measures, and indirect measures”. This chapter outlines some of the well-defined key performance indicators (KPIs) that will support a better understanding of project performance. It highlights the common confusion between the difference in KPIs, metrics, and measures. For long-term KPI success, there should also be designated times and schedules for the data collection. When selecting KPIs, the focus needs to be on a small set of metrics. KPIs are also linked to individual performance. However, KPIs cannot be generic across an organization as they must apply to the specific project or organization to be useful. The project benefits management plan was introduced along with a template to assist in identifying, tracking, recording, and reporting the benefits of a project. Before developing KPIs, it is important for an organization to identify KPQs, such as what is the end-goal of the project or organization.
