ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to sensitize us to the issue of resource overallocation and presents some of the tools embedded in MS Project to help resolve particular situation. The team planner view offers yet another view of the overallocation situation. The chapter references MS Project support capabilities, it would be handy to download the Car Problem First Cut project plan from the publisher’s website. Project Management Institute describes the term resource leveling as “a technique in which start and finish dates are adjusted based on resource constraints with the goal of balancing the demand for resources with the available supply”. The plan tasks and resources need to be reallocated around the external problem. The mantra for plan management dynamics is to find ways to “positively influence the outcome” through a combination of task/resource decisions and not just sitting back with a static plan that overruns.
