ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on some of the key processes in moving the business case view into a viable project structure. It addresses how stakeholder support for the project is gained, including the decision process to officially launch a new project and the related purpose of a project charter. The chapter also addresses the general process outlining how support for the project is gained, which includes the approach to officially launch a new project and the purpose of a project charter. One of the early definitional tasks in the life cycle is to identify project stakeholders formally. A charter is “a document issued by the project initiator or sponsor that formally authorizes the existence of a project and provides the project manager with authority to apply organizational resources to project activities”. The perceived risks of the project charter is an important component of planning. The budget of the project charter displays the overall project budget objective.
