ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the next step in the launch process, which is to develop the scope planning, which yields a scope management plan and the scope definition, resulting in an updated scope management plan, scope statement, and requested changes to the project scope. Project boundaries need to be set so that the Project Management (PM) does not find himself/herself being placed in a position where the amount of funds provided is firm, yet the scope of the project work keeps growing. A project objective would be items such as deliver the defined outputs on-time, on-budget, and within scope, whereas a product objective would be to make sure the software is user-friendly, technical specifications are met, etc. The team guided by the PM’s leadership establishes the project’s objectives, deliverables, requirements, and/or specifications as well as criteria for success in terms of realistic, clear, and measurable objectives.
