ABSTRACT
Information categorization and the importance of studying information spread over social media is discussed. The main social network theory concepts that the reader should take away from reading the text are listed. As it applies to social media systems, sociology and computer science fields are useful areas of study. A programming foundation in a flexible and popular programming language such as Python is a great starting point, but there are several books, courses, and free online tutorials to aid in learning data science basics. For more advanced users, machine learning is quickly becoming an important tool in any analysis or prediction method that can utilize large amounts of data. More advanced methods such as optimal control offer personalized and practical alternatives, though they are often more rigorous from a mathematical and design perspective. The primary unique challenge is in intelligently applying control methods to social media systems.
