ABSTRACT

An interesting point about first-person games is that they featured a unique form of jumping which has been dubbed “crouch-jumping.” Jumping in first person is different compared to 2D, or even 3D, design, and has its own set of considerations. Playing from a first-person perspective has its own set of unique challenges. Despite the evolution of technology and design, first-person gameplay in all forms is always limited by the camera system. A first-person camera only shows information that the player is directly looking at. The first-person platformers we’ve seen that focus on platforming tend to be very repetitive in their obstacle design. While first-person platforming hit a wall, 3D would dominate platforming for at least a decade.
