ABSTRACT

One of the most surprising games released on the Nintendo Wii U was Super Mario Maker: a game aimed primarily at giving players the ability to create levels in the styles of Super Mario Brothers 1, 3, World, and New Super Mario Brothers. Super Mario Maker was a big deal among game design. The Super Mario Maker UI gave players an unprecedented amount of detail when it came to Mario’s jumping and momentum. Super Mario Maker continues to highlight Mario’s longevity when it comes to platforming design and why it’s considered to be the popular template for Kaizo levels. The popularity of Kaizo games and levels in the mainstream market has grown with the continuing awareness of speed running. From a historical standpoint, Super Mario Brothers 1, 3, and World are some of the most recognizable platformers ever made. There is an unofficial software specifically designed to edit and create Super Mario World hacks that has streamlined the process.
