ABSTRACT

Level design is a multi-faceted topic when it comes to game development—every genre has its own rules, examples of good and bad designs, and more. Even Kaizo games, despite their high difficulty, will stick to a similar concept with their level designs. Great level design will always have a sense of progression to it. Good level design is built on a “quality over quantity” philosophy. The more mechanics in game developer title means that they have a greater pool of elements to draw from when designing new levels or sections. A great designer can make a level that provides new and expert players with something unique for them to try. Testers will be able to comb over every inch of a game in ways that the designer would never have the time to do. The use of hitboxes are vital in any game that makes use of collision detection.
