ABSTRACT
A description of the pertinent AFM electronic systems are in this chapter including operation of the laser beam/photodiode system. In addition, an overview of scanner components and operation is included. In this chapter, readers will find a description of common scanner nonlinearities. A more extensive explanation of the feedback loop is included. Also, an explanation of the proportional and integral gains is provided, and their importance to the operation of the feedback loop is explained. Lastly, this chapter provides readers with an overview of additional imaging parameters and their role in the successful operation of AFM.
