ABSTRACT

In Chapter 9, readers will find an overview of the standard image processing techniques used to enhance AFM images. The leveling description includes an explanation of the line fitting procedure used to remove artifacts in AFM images arising from sample tilt and scanner bow. A comparison of the different types of polynomial line fits used in leveling is included. This chapter also describes how histogram adjust is used to optimize contrast in AFM images. Readers will also learn how fast Fourier transform (FFT) allows AFM users to remove unwanted oscillations from AFM images. Additionally, Chapter 9 explains the generation and utility of line profiles.
