ABSTRACT

Human society causes the emissions of carbon in the form of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by mining, burning and use of fossil fuels in the metallurgical cycle, and disturbs the equilibrium concentration of greenhouse gases in it. The process of reducing carbon dioxide emissions is relevant also for primary metallurgical production of iron and steel. Although carbon dioxide emissions have been significantly reduced in the metallurgical sector of some countries, the continuous increase in the volume of steel production on a global scale will force the sector into yet more significant reduction of carbon dioxide. Increasing the energy efficiency of technology in integrated metallurgical enterprises results in a reduction of emissions.
