ABSTRACT

Challenges put to scientists from society, as well as those arising from our own scientific curiosity, do not always, in fact rarely, respect the traditional science subject boundaries. One can try to cover all the bases in following one’s curiosity and develop skills across every science discipline. However, funding agencies posing grand challenges, and offering monies for research that one can apply for, tend to require proposals to have a team of experts each with a track record of successfully tackling interdisciplinary goals. It is worth mentioning that interdisciplinary challenges, and the research undertaken to overcome them, are a different category of research. Such research also doesn’t suit everyone.
