ABSTRACT

Public health in Indonesia started to become an integral part of the country's development when the first public health program was initiated in 1956 at three major universities in Indonesia. These programs of public health were under the College of Medicine in three major universities in Jakarta, Yogyakarta and Surabaya. According to the demands of essential public health services, as well as understanding more specific problems in the public health education program, education in public health is required to have eight competencies as the basic competencies mastered by public health program graduates. In order to prepare professional public health workers for their respective careers, the role of the university is very important as an institution that creates professional candidates. Through education at the university level, students are exposed to various scientific and public health practices that contribute to the achievement of their competencies.
