ABSTRACT

The task defines the team, once they know what's required in broad terms they can recruit the right people. As leaders need to be on the lookout for talent and additionally, make plans to assess how individuals perform so that they develop our pool and have more choice. Being part of a team is risky, because team members are trying to meet a challenge and are exposed by being in the public eye. Their behaviour in helping co-workers sets the tone and encourages team members to help each other, rather than just depending on the leader. For instance, when functioning groups are destabilised such as when there is a change in team membership, they may go back to the storming phase where the balance of power between new and existing members is again contested. They need to coach some team members to become more assertive and others to become more effective listeners.
