ABSTRACT

Let’s consider an insight about ‘strength’ which is potentially game-changing for leadership development. However, the model could also be applied at the level of a team or even a larger community, showing how the range of skills discussed below are also applicable to groups of people engaged in common endeavours. The primary colours of leadership are green, red and blue, and we could think of these as 'Thinking' skills, 'Relating to people' skills and 'Management' skills, respectively. Consulting skills are not part of the professional experience of every leader, but for those that have them, they offer a range of tools that could enhance the leadership. Leadership in some ways is like consulting but at a bigger scale, and consulting skills are transferable to the world beyond the consulting room door - and vice versa. Likewise, the coaching skills that we develop with colleagues outside the consulting room could be applied to help patients alter their lifestyle.
