ABSTRACT

Deforestation destroys humus and tropical soils. The process of conversion of rain forest to grassland involves considerable loss of biomass mainly in the tropics and carbon transfer to the atmosphere, which increases the global greenhouse effect. For example, X. Wang and S. Myint stated environmental concerns of deforestation in Myanmar. Thunderstorms occur on at least two days of every week in Mandeville. Several older residents believe that Mandeville has been hotter with more thunderstorms as compared with climatic conditions. The hypothesis is as follows: Greater Mandeville has experienced greater heat and increased thunderstorm frequency and deforestation in the area north of Mandeville largely accounts for these changes. “Afternoon” rather than “anytime” thunderstorms had the added advantage of reducing statistical “noise” from frontally uplifted synoptic thunderstorm incursions from North America into the Caribbean irrespective of occurrence times.
