ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the basic reasoning behind the needs for modular approaches in energy industry, its advantages and disadvantages, its successful applications in building, vehicle, and computer industries and the best methods for its use for implementing and managing components of energy industry. It reviews basic perspectives on how modular approaches can best handle new innovations in energy technology, mobility revolution, and growing importance of distributed energy or energy fractionation. The chapter addresses dos and don’ts of modular approach and outline the best strategies for managing energy systems in modular environment. It demonstrates organizational changes that would occur in the modular energy industry. The chapter describes the best management strategies to handle modular approach and its use to manage companies in highly competitive and rapidly changing environment. A modular system is composed of units that are designed independently but function as an integrated whole. The chapter also presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book.
