ABSTRACT

The practice of designing sustainable buildings makes business sense as it leads to improved building performance with increased revenue through higher sales price and lower cost of utilities. Buildings rating systems and infrastructure rating systems promote the development and diffusion of sustainable construction practices. Infrastructure is the underlying system of structures, facilities and services that are essential to the functioning of an economy, encompassing energy generation and distribution, transportation, telecommunications, and water and sanitation. Computer modeling is an extremely useful tool in optimizing design of electrical and mechanical systems and the building shell. Building commissioning includes testing and adjusting the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to ensure that all equipment meets design criteria. The aim was to use a Sustainable Urban Drainage System in the neighborhood, as traditional drainage solutions would result in a loss of water catchment area and shrinking of the lake itself.
