ABSTRACT

Every traditional coal cleaning plant utilizes gravity concentration. The chapter describes how a gravity concentration unit is incorporated in a coal preparation plant, and gives the flowsheet of a typical coal preparation plant in the USA. The flowsheet shows the incorporation of various gravity-based coal cleaning devices in a coal cleaning circuit. The principles of the Baum jig, Batac Jig, and the Pan-America Placer Jig are described. The chapter also describes the theory and operating characteristics of tables and single- and double-stage spirals. For places where there is a shortage of water, dry gravity separators are described. Notable features of various centrifugal gravity concentrators are given.
