ABSTRACT

More than 4000 exoplanets have been discovered in the past few decades, which potentially could harbor life of some form. All the discoveries have been from space based observatories but supported by earth based facilities. Most exoplanets discovered thus far have been around F, G, K and M type main sequence stars. This chapter cruises through the various space missions that have aided in the discovery of exoplanets. French Space Agency’s CoRoT mission launched in 2006 discovered several earth-like rocky exoplanets and a few Hot jupiters before it was decommissioned in 2012. NASA’s Kepler Space mission contributed over 2300 exoplanets of various types to the tally while TESS is expected to scan 85% of the sky in search of exoplanets.
