ABSTRACT

The purpose this chapter is twofold: a practical objective, enabling to follow the process of designing a map, step by step, and a theoretical objective aiming to show, with nine different maps, what cartographic subjectivity actually is – how can gross domestic product (GDP) be mapped is the challenge of this chapter. This exercise in style shows that, obviously, facts can be narrated in many different manners. Facts without any interpretation or perspective do not have much to say: the art of the cartographer is highlighted here, and the power of map is huge!
