ABSTRACT
“Fiber-to-the-Home” is a communication architecture in which a communication path is established from optical fiber cables to an optical line terminal unit located in telecommunications operator’s switching setup connecting to optical network terminal. The main issues of ethernet passive optical network standards are proper specification of hardware devices and protocols used for assigning bandwidth to the users providing fairness and quality of service. The installation and maintenance costs of access networks are mainly contributed by active elements. The cost is increased due to having more tunable and wavelength-sensitive optical components used in the network. General framing procedure uses a generic system to accommodate traffic from higher layers over a transport layer such as synchronous optical network or synchronous digital hierarchy. The degradation of network efficiency increases the overhead of the frames. The proper design of queuing schedule reduces the overhead size.
