ABSTRACT

This chapter argues that game designers’ have already set up their virtual reality (VR) hardware as per the manufacturer’s setup instructions. It looks at setting up their VR environment and examined some tips for a healthier experience, such as calculating their Interpupillary Distance (IPD) rating and knowing when to take a break. The virtual IPD is the distance between the two cameras used to represent the viewer’s eyes in the virtual world. VR sickness affects different people in different ways, and it is triggered by different factors in different people, too, which makes providing a definitive list of symptoms almost impossible. Sweating is a very common symptom of VR sickness and the only way to stop it is to take a break. Preferably a break in a cooler space. Getting dizzy or feeling sick is never a good thing, but for many of us it is a regular part of the VR experience.
