ABSTRACT
Chapter 2 discusses making contact, the blow off force, the formation of the vacuum arc as the contacts open, and how its appearance changes as a function of current. It reviews the interaction of the vacuum arc with transverse and axial magnetic fields. Three forms of anode spot are also presented.
