ABSTRACT

The Verbal Reasoning section of the UCAT tests doctor's ability to quickly absorb and interpret information. Verbal Reasoning questions are not created by a computer. They are written by human beings. Faulty logic occurs when the structure of the argument employed does not make logical sense. This can lead to reasonable premises – in terms of content – being used to justify an unsound conclusion. ‘Free Text’ Question Sets were introduced in 2013. They make up a significant percentage of the Verbal Reasoning section. Juxtaposition occurs when two ideas or objects are placed next to each other within the passage. The key thing to remember is that just because two things are stated in close proximity, it does not mean that they are linked – even if they refer to similar topics and use similar language.
