ABSTRACT

Since the 1950s, Chinese scholars, following the political division, have divided the country into 6 regions (see Map 1): (1) Northeast (N.E.) region of Heilongjiang, Liaoning, and Jilin provinces; (2) North (N.) region with the cities of Beijing and Tianjin; Hebei and Shanxi provinces; and Nei Monggol autonomous region; (3) Northwest (N.W.) region of Shaanxi, Gansu, and Qinghai provinces, and Ningxia Hui and Xinjiang Uygur autonomous regions; (4) Central and South (C.S.) region of Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong provinces, and Guangxi autonomous region; (5) East (E.) region of Shanghai city, Jiangsu Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, Jiangxi, and Shandong provinces; and (6) Southwest (S.W.) region of Sichuan, Guizhou, and Yunnan provinces, and Tibet autonomous region. A recent mapping of regions by agricultural and natural conditions resulted in a more precise and more detailed division of the country, but it is not consistent with the data. <target id="page_12" target-type="page">12</target>Chinese Agricultural Regions (Old) https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9780429304248/1607691c-7657-4f41-bf90-9d6047edd05a/content/fig2_1.tif"/>
