ABSTRACT

Agriculture in China is being transformed from a traditional to a modern pattern. More modern inputs have been applied to attain the high growth rate of total production in order to satisfy the increasing demand. As a result, total production grew at 5% a yearn from 1965 to 1986, which is the most rapid among all socialist countries and is even more rapid than most of the developing countries during the same period. But questions on the efficiency of this performance had no satisfactory amswers and the regional differences of this performamce were not well-understood. This book fills this gap in our knowledge.
