ABSTRACT

That summer of 1958, before I had left for my six-week grand tour, we started planning for the Magnet Lab. In fact, you [Don Stevenson, interviewer] and Henry Kolm [7.37] were asked to work with me, and we had written a preliminary proposal. But because I was absent, you and Henry were asked by George Valley [8. 1 ] to go down to Washington, DC to make the presentation. Apparently it didn’t succeed too well.
