ABSTRACT

Pharmacology is that science that deals with drugs: their sciences, their characteristics, their chemistry, and their uses. In pharmacology tannins in general are antiseptic against bacteria and influenza virus, constipative, and astringent. In 1939 an Egyptian pharmacist compiled a book on the history of pharmacy and chemistry in ancient Egypt. The caduceus, which is the snake symbol, was an important emblem in medical practice both in Egypt and Babylonia at approximately 4000 B.C., and the Greeks attributed it to Hermes, who is reciprocal to Thoth of Egypt. In 1939 an Egyptian pharmacist compiled a book on the history of pharmacy and chemistry in ancient Egypt. Figs were a valued article of food and medicine amongst the ancient Egyptians and subsequently the Hebrews and the Greeks. The glossary of the drugs used in pharaonic Egypt has been very well tabulated by Estes.
