ABSTRACT

Diagnostic techniques are very much linked to the use of test equipment. In most cases this involves comparing the result of a test to the reading given in a data source. By way of an introduction, this chapter lists some of the basic words and descriptions relating to tools and equipment. A digital multimeter is an essential tool for working on vehicle electrical and electronic systems. The loading effect relates to the internal resistance of the meter. The Verdict diagnostic and information system includes a wireless display, scanner and meter/scope. The advantage of this is that the information is mirrored to the main unit, which in turn can be connected to a large display screen or used on its own. There is a range of different multimeters available and choosing the right one is essential. The chapter presents the advantages and disadvantages of some of the multimeters.
