ABSTRACT

A global technology solution (GTS) relies on a highly sophisticated integrated level of configuration management (CM) activities. This is contrary to the trend of many companies that have moved GTS out from under the overall CM infrastructure and treat it as if it were a separate service provider. CM in modular systems, while different in specific context, is no different than CM of any other system when viewed from the systems level. GTS management must include metadata trending in the CM implementation. Prior to 1997, few firms implemented GTS solutions for monitoring employee movement between facilities, routine facility security checks, or e-mail attachment data content for political correctness, or other contents. There are several basic GTS service desk infrastructure approaches: first in first out, single-string approach based on criticality, and functional service request disposition. Many software–user interfaces are moving to a cloud-based or cloud implementable–based user interface hosted on the enterprise GTS backbone regardless of the sophistication of the GTS infrastructure.
