ABSTRACT

Configuration Management (CM) implementation requires that CM planning accommodate technical requirement evolution and that the accommodation be documented in the CM plan. In an international collaboration, becoming adept in ascertaining the sense of what something is called and applying that root-level understanding in crafting the CM implementation is important. The purpose of CM as a profession culminates in the acceptance of product or service by a customer. Real-time need to ensure that products meet rigorous standards, although using the same basic CM principles, takes on unfamiliar forms. Functional baseline is an integral part of the development phase of the product life cycle. The functional and allocated baselines are often blurred in commercial development, with the allocation of requirements to systems and subsystems occurring as part of concept development. The standard points out that the product baseline can be owned by either an internal or external customer.
