ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the everlasting need for an integrated understanding in the field of interdisciplinary sciences and research. It emphasizes the challenge to translate scientific concepts to viable technology and eventually to engineered products of societal relevance, as well as the aspects concerning education and training of young researchers to better adapt such an approach. The concepts of the interdisciplinary approach can be realized in the context of scientific and technological upheaval happenings. Such an approach can potentially offer a universal battleground for the problems arising from any of the disciplines. Overall, the interdisciplinary approach facilitates the cross-talk between various disciplines, which has the potential to further enrich the educational system. As time goes on, the interdisciplinary studies will become more and more demanding at higher levels of education. However, such educational programs should be designed in a way to establish a sturdy correlation and interaction between various disciplines.
