ABSTRACT

Managing vulnerability to natural and man-made disasters through modern information and communication technology is one of the scopes of this research work to achieve the desired objectives. The natural hazards, their vulnerability or both can cause failure of the technology, so engineers must design systems that will sustain the devastating impacts of the disasters. Effective early warning systems for all hazards must be designed, developed and put into action throughout the geographical and territorial jurisdiction of Pakistan. The country should switch on to modern environmental sensor systems interlinked with early warning systems through wired, WiMAX, Wi-Fi, Zigbee and satellite-based networks. Technology plays an important role in reducing the pre- and post-disaster havocs. The potential of disaster risks can also be reduced through ideas and techniques invented and submitted by technologists, engineers and researchers. Hence, the technology introduced by these professionals must be paid due heed and consideration to mitigate impacts of disasters.
