ABSTRACT

This chapter on ‘State Feedback Control and State Estimator’ deals with the concepts of state controllability, output controllability, stabilizability, complete observability, Kalman’s tests for controllability and observability, detectability, state space representation in various canonical forms (controllable canonical form, observable canonical from, diagonal canonical form and Jordan canonical form), state feedback control using pole placement technique, determination of state feedback gain matrix (using transformation matrix approach, direct substitution method and Ackermann’s formula), state estimation (observer), full order/reduced order/minimum order observers, mathematical model of state observer and determination of state observer gain matrix (using transformation matrix approach, direct substitution method and Ackermann’s formula). The concepts are also illustrated with suitable numerical examples.
