ABSTRACT

The purpose of the soil test is to obtain the chemical, physical and mechanical properties of the soil sample. The experimentally obtained indexes can be used for theoretical analysis of soil mechanics and practical application of engineering. This chapter compares and analyzes the differences between Chinese Standards and British Standards. The colorimetric method determines the pH of the test solution by examining the color change of the indicator in the soil suspension. The soluble salt test is to determine the content of total soluble salt, chloride ion, and sulfate. Organic matter in soil refers to organic compounds which are mainly composed of carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen and oxygen, supplemented by sulfur, phosphorus and metal elements. Water content is the ratio of the mass of water to the mass of the solid particles in a given mass of soil. Density of soil is closely correlated with other engineering properties. The methods for measuring density of soil include direct method and wax-sealing method.
