ABSTRACT

The core system for the MOST Work Measurement Technique is BasicMOST. BasicMOST is used to measure variable, medium-cycle operations. The four sequence models that comprise BasicMOST and the corresponding parameter application rules are defined in this chapter. The General Move Sequence Model is used for the spatial movement of objects. When objects are moved in a restricted manner, the Controlled Move Sequence Model is used. The Tool Use Sequence Model is applicable when using common hand tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches and pliers in addition to activities for surface treating, writing and even thinking. The use of keyboards, keypads and other administrative activities are defined in this chapter in the Equipment Use Sequence Model section. The sequence models are comprised of parameters which are letters representing activities for each movement. Each parameter and its application rules for BasicMOST are defined in detail in this chapter. When applying the application rules, index values representing the time for the activity are applied to each parameter resulting in a total TMU (Time Measurement Unit). The TMU total can be converted to seconds, minutes or hours and, with allowances applied, provide the time for the engineered standard.
