ABSTRACT

Remote laboratory (RL) technology has become an important component of online education and industrial applications due to its potency and cost-effectiveness. Recent advantages of information technology have provided various ways to develop RLs. However, how to rapidly bring an offline experiment online is still a vital issue in the development of an RL. In this chapter, a novel flexible framework based on social instant messaging (IM) application architecture is proposed for integrating an offline remote experiment into an RL rapidly as a communication node with a unique ID. This novel flexible framework includes client web module, server module, and experiment control module as most RLs do. For rapidly connecting the experimental equipment with the server using the experiment control module, a new-version LtoN (LabVIEW to Node.js) module built on Socket.IO protocol is designed and implemented. To demonstrate the feasibility of this novel flexible framework, a remote smart vibration platform (SVP) experiment is revamped. The novel flexible framework will significantly benefit the development of RL technology.
