ABSTRACT

This chapter takes a leap back in time and begins with a story from the author’s college years. He tells about a time when he and some friends went to a movie that began with an unpleasant series of technical difficulties. The movie was about a character who had premonitions and how he used them to avoid terrible consequences. Using this example, the author introduces a simple yet effective concept designed to empower workers to identify the areas in their environment which could cause injury or harm. The exercise is only effective, however, when people are given the expectation (and hold to it) that those things must be removed or otherwise accounted for before work may commence. The Stupid Simple Tool in this chapter is designed to teach people the difference between merely existing in their environment and actively participating in it.
