ABSTRACT

The chapter deals with fabric construction and the specifics of the weave patterns. It presents the 2D binary code or weave diagram that illustrate the weaves, as well as warp and weft overlaps and floats as basic terms in the pattern design. Pattern repeat, number of overlaps, and displacement number are discussed as basic characteristics of the weaves. The chapter discusses in detail the elementary weaves (the plain weave, twill, and satin/sateen) and their common basic features. It also explains the difference between sateen and satin weaves.
