ABSTRACT

Chapter 1 is concerned with randomization tests where the interest is in whether the observations in a sample appear to be in a random order rather than displaying some pattern. For example there might be interest in whether the males of a certain wildlife species have similar values to females for a body size measurement. The question is then whether the observed mean difference in a sample of males and females could reasonably be due to chance rather than any real size difference. The chapter also covers the calculation of confidence limits based on randomization.
