ABSTRACT

This chapter investigates the possible solutions when people allow time-dependence for the forcing fields and response variables. The idea of Fourier Transform is presented next which allows people to decompose or reconstruct an irregular time-series into a set of useful harmonics. Waves carry energy from one place of the ocean to another. They transfer energy. The stored potential energy in the ocean gets perturbed – waves are generated – they propagate – when they come in contact with other oceanic features or bathymetry, or lateral boundary; the waves interact, reflect, dissipate, they transfer their energy to other forms of kinetic energy. Energy gets transferred from scale to scale – through what is called multiscale processes. Generation of waves, their propagation, their eventual dissipation, and distribution, of energy – it is the life cycle of nature. A wave breaking is a great example. Swells are created by winds perturbing the ocean far away from the coast.
