ABSTRACT

Building materials are often heterogeneous and building structures are composite. We show how to describe water transport in layered and other nonuniform materials. Topics include; flow through two- layer and multilayer composites; definition and effects of a contact resistance; flow parallel to interfaces; flow through materials with sorptive and nonsorptive inclusions; flow through graded materials with nonuniform properties along the flow path; and the sorptivity as a local property.
