ABSTRACT

In the fabric of buildings internal processes of water transport are al- most always coupled to external conditions. The migration and stor- age of water respond dynamically to changes in those conditions. We discuss examples of problems in moisture dynamics, and point to some practical implications of the results of these analyses. Topics include absorption of driving rain on building surfaces; rising damp in walls (including damage at the base of walls, and remdial treat- ments); the moisture state of a cavity wall; and drying of buildings.
